In the Lap of luxury

Pupils in Y6JL recently got to grips with the newest addition to our ICT resources - a set of laptops.

As the laptops are completely portable they enable children to access ICT at any time and can be easily incorporated into lessons.

Happy Birthday Hunter's Bar – 100 years old!

Img_1092_web Hunter's Bar Junior School is 100 years old and we celebrated our centenary in style by holding a garden party – followed by a visit from some special guests.

The school was transformed with bunting and special artwork produced by the children. Pupils and staff past and present attended to enjoy a variety of attractions and entertainment.

HBJ pupils in University research project

Hunter's Bar Junior School was one of two schools in Sheffield involved in a research project with Katherine Stevens at The University of Sheffield, researching health-related quality of life in children.

Over 120 children in our school took part in the various stages of the work and more information about the project will appear on the University website as the project progresses.

Mrs Harrison is a winner!

Img_0432Y6 teacher Mrs Harrison has won a National Teaching Award for the North of England.

She was featured on the BBC Look North programme and in the regional and national press after the ceremony at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate.

She now goes on to the Winners Weekend in London for the national final in October. The ceremony will be held at the London Palladium and will be hosted by a well-known TV personality.

Play-Ground Force gets to work on HBJ garden

The school garden has been given a new lease of life by pupils from Y6 and volunteers from Sheffield Hallam University.

The volunteers – 18 pupils and 14 students – worked tirelessly over the weekend to give the garden a well-deserved makeover before the Easter break. The revamped garden will be in full bloom for the school centenary celebrations in summer.

Mrs Harrison: Teacher of the Year 2007?

Y6 teacher Mrs Harrison is a finalist in the National Teaching Awards - one of four finalists in the North of England.

Nominations and testimonies came from the school and she was shortlisted on the strength of the evidence.
