We worked with other schools to make an Olympic village. Our team had to design and make; an Information building/booking office, transport, and a fairground attraction.
We could use as much ‘free’ material as possible (including the 2 large carrier bags filled with ‘junk’ we had brought) and other limited components such as wood, gears, wheels and bulbs and batteries.
We were able to use a variety of tools and support was given from industry experts.
The team showed great enthusiasm, perseverance and creativity. They worked well individually, in pairs and as part of a larger group. We achieved all our objectives before the time limit and went onto additional tasks.
Here are some of the children’s comments about what they enjoyed most:
“Solving our problem with help from an engineer”
“Making my plane”
“Seeing what everyone else had made”
Special thanks to the parent helpers who gave support, advice and helped bring our models back to school on the bus!
