February 2006 Newsletter

Half term is now upon us – marking half way through this academic year. I wish all the children a happy half term break.

It has come to our attention that the city’s schools are experiencing significant levels of absence due to sickness, headache and fever. So far Hunter’s Bar pupils have remained comparatively healthy!

The best advice to help reduce the spread of infection is for you not to send your child to school when s/he is poorly.

Within schools and among family members, the single most important measure to reduce the spread of flu is meticulous attention to handwashing. Coughing or sneezing into your hands, or using a handkerchief, covers your hands with flu virus, which then can be readily transferred to other people's hands or hard surfaces, thus passing on the infection.

School closure: INSET Day 4

I can now inform you that the missing INSET Day will be Thursday May 4th.  This means that the school will be closed on Monday (Bank Holiday) and Thursday that same week.

The infant school is to be used as a polling station and difficulties in managing the site for public access means that the junior school will also close.

Enquiries were made after the last polling to see if alternative accommodation could be sought. We have now been informed that this will not be the case.

I appreciate the inconvenience for you by closing on that day and the effect it has on the working of the school and its pupils during Bank Holiday week and before SATs. I’d welcome your views as I am interested in your perspective which may influence any response I send to try to change the situation for the future. I attach a form which you can use to return your comment

SEAL

The topic of “Going for Goals” went well this half term. We are preparing for next half term’s theme of “Good to be Me”.  I have attached a letter giving more information.

Hunter’s Bar Centenary 2007

The school opened on June 17th 1907 so in June next year we will want to mark the occasion. We want to start the planning now and produce a book as part of the event.  My appeal is in two parts:

Have you a particular interest in being part of a working party to organise the event?

Do you have (or know anyone who has) any memories, photographs etc of Hunter’s Bar Junior School?

Please get in touch with either Mrs Harrison or me if you can help with either of the above.

Thank You!

To Derek Nice who has sponsored a new football kit for the school football teams. They will now proudly run onto the pitch in a smart new kit and we appreciate the generous gesture. .

And goodbye…

We say a fond farewell to Ms Bustamante who taught in Y5 during Mrs Thomas’ maternity leave. She has been well liked by both staff and children and has enjoyed being at Hunter’s Bar - so I’m sure we’ll continue to see her for supply work in school. The other up-side is that we welcome Mrs Thomas back after half term to continue her partnership with Mrs Brocklesby.

Welcome!
