May newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Hunter’s Bar Junior School Website

http://hunters-bar-schools.typepad.com

Weblog launch!!

It is now time to properly unveil our new website (more correctly a weblog.) The content of the site has been updated and I hope you will take the time to visit.

The children were given a presentation in assembly today and I hope your child will be able to show you and better inform you of the possibilities! I hope you agree it is an exciting venture for the school!

The advantage of the system is the ease with which we can keep information fresh and we hope that you will be able to use it on a regular basis to find out what is happening in school. Newsletters and information about the school will be included on the main pages. Children’s work, pictures and video clips can be included on the pupils’ weblog.

It is another tool to be able to improve communication with you - but it is not intended as a replacement for newsletters and letters home.

Please return the attached reply slips as soon as possible so we can

PPA

From September teachers are guaranteed 10% of their timetabled teaching as release time for Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA). I enclose a briefing note for parents with this Newsletter, which aims to cover the aspects of workforce reform that will be of interest to parents.

The plan for Hunter’s Bar is well under way and another teacher has been appointed to the school. Our aim is to provide our children with modern Foreign Languages and PE taught by teachers who specialise in those areas. This means that when teachers are released for their PPA time the children will continue to receive a high quality education.

Mobile Phones etc.

An increasing number of children are bringing mobile phones and valuable items to school. Inevitably there are problems associated with this and we ask that parents /carers discourage children from bringing these items to school unless there is a very good reason to do so. If a child needs a phone for whatever reason they should bring it to the school office in the morning and make it their responsibility to collect it at the end of the school day. Phones with a camera / video facility should not be brought to school.

School Meals

This has been given high profile recently! For your information I attach information regarding the school meal provision in Sheffield.

During the week of the year group sports afternoons we are planning the timetable for a Health Week. As part of that work we are currently exploring the possibility of running a Healthy Tuck Shop, selling fruit and veg. snacks.
