Internet Policy

The statutory curriculum requires pupils to learn how to locate, retrieve and exchange information using ICT.  In delivering the curriculum, teachers need to plan to integrate the use of communications technology such as web-based resources and e‑mail.  Computer skills are vital to access life-long learning and employment; indeed ICT is now seen as an essential life-skill.

Most technologies present risks as well as benefits.  Internet use for work, home, social and leisure activities is expanding in all sectors of society.  This brings young people into contact with a wide variety of influences, some of which – as in life generally – may be unsuitable.  It is important that schools, as well as parents, adopt strategies for the safe and responsible use of the Internet.

Administering medicines in school

Medicines in school

No child under sixteen should be given medicines without their parent’s written consent.

Medicines should only be sent to school where it would be detrimental to the child’s health if it were not administered during the school day.

The school will only accept medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor, dentist, nurse prescriber or pharmacist prescriber. Medicines should always be provided in the original container as dispensed by a pharmacist and include the prescriber’s instructions for administration.

School should keep written records of each time a medicine is given. (See Appendices)

A child who has been prescribed a controlled drug may legally have it in their possession. School may look after the controlled drug, where it is agreed that it will be administered for the child for whom it has been prescribed.

Any controlled drugs should be kept in a lockable, non portable container and only named staff will have access. Children should know where their own medicines are stored and who holds the key.

All emergency medicines, such as asthma inhalers and adrenaline pens, should be readily available to children and should not be locked away. Children may carry their own inhaler.

Non-emergency medicines should be kept in a secure place, not accessible to children. Medicines that are required to be refrigerated should be kept in an air-tight container and clearly labelled.

The headteacher’s agreement is required for a non- prescribed medicine to be administered.

Attendance policy

Policy Statement

Good attendance and punctuality are vital if pupils are to achieve their maximum potential. Hunter’s Bar Junior School is committed to working with parents/carers and pupils to ensure that each pupil benefits from the academic, personal and social opportunities available to them during their years with us.

The young child, however, is dependant upon the adults in his/her life to get them to school regularly and on time. So the focus in both Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 programmes is to establish good habits and work with parent/carers to improve attendance. In Key Stage 2 we continue to work with parent/carers and start to develop ‘self’ responsibility in the children. The school operates within a framework of local schools, including the linked secondary school.

We are, therefore, committed to a whole school approach to attendance and a partnership relationship with parent/carers.

Staffing changes

We are congratulating Dawn Harrison for her move to  Ryegate (Children's Hospital) at the end of this half term. Her skills both with children with SEN and in sewing and design will be put to really good use in her new role. We will miss her at Hunter's Bar, she has made a real difference to children here and we all wish her well.

This term we have welcomed Sajida Khurram (nee Anwar) back to school following her maternity leaves. She has slotted seamlessly back into the team of Teaching Assistants and it is lovely to have her back.

March Newsletter 2009

Y4 Residential to Castleton

This was another great success and got a big "thumbs up" from the children. It's wonderful when all the children AND staff enjoy it - and this is exactly what can be said for this year's trip again. Fortunately the weather held well and the children were able to make their climb up to Peveril Castle as well as numerous other activities on the Monday - I'm sure this is what helped what was quite a settled night before another busy day on Tuesday. Well done Y4. Read more inside this newsletter...
